Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

What if you could pay $12.50 and eat all the steamed clams, shrimp, mussels, crawfish, octopus, baked salmon, and fried blue crab you can possibly stuff into your gaping maw in one sitting? No. Really. All you can eat of these treasures of the sea. The answer to the above question, is of course, "Hell yeah. Where do I get this seafood extravaganza?" It's at China Town Buffet. This is an amazing deal. If i desired, I could partake endlessly of all of the above options, and have no penalty, either to my health or to my wallet. However, I would recommend avoiding everything else at the buffet. The various stir fries, the egg rolls, the wantons, the chicken wings are all pretty terrible. i fight the impulse to get the orange chicken, the egg foo yung, the teriyaki chicken. These are all pretty bad tasting, and really bad for you. But, if you stick with only the seafood offerings, you will leave happy, fulfilled, and healthy. And for less than 15 bucks.

I came on a Sunday afternoon and this place was packed. They may offer more on weekends because the price is more, but I'm not sure since this was my first time here. I thought the selection was good. They have crawdads, clam, shrimp, and crab legs. The crawdads are in a good spicy sauce. I'd come here again even though many don't seem to like it. Again I'm reviewing a buffet not a high end Chinese place. This would be a 1 or 2 if I were comparing this and pf Chang's.

Wil do in a pinch but not worth a special trip. My visit was very hit and miss. Some of the offerings were flavorful and fresh, some were just dead in the pan and painful to look upon. Table service was friendly and quick but the men's room floor was worse than the worst movie theatre, my feet are still sticky and I think the murky puddle under the urinal was watching me pee. The mongolian grill is nice, I got a kick-butt plate out of it, but all the meat pieces was frozen together and I had to bang them out with the tongs. They had no sushi. Maybe on the weekends? The booth I was in was literally falling apart. The back swayed like a 98lb. drunk and the seat was misplaced a couple inches, leaving a charming rectanglular hole between seat and base; makes me wonder what treasures have fallen down there over the years. The Hot and Sour soup was totally flavorless, I wondered why it wasn't hot or sour as one would expect. I learned the answer soon enough when I saw a cook just dumping straight hot water into the Hot n Sour soup pot when it was running low! Dear God this is a travesty! Hot and Sour Soup is one of THE things I go for at every Chinese buffet and they just destroy theirs wantonly. Maybe it's good before the water dumping, but by 12:30pm when I came in it was like Hot n Sour flavored tea at best. The hard ice cream is awesome. It was soft, maybe a little too soft, but made for good scooping unlike other places when you've got to really chisel away to get something out. The rest of the desserts were straight from the box frozen commercial fair. I would come back but not until I try some other places in the area. I will also come early before the Hot n Sour gets bastardized too much. Yuk!

We did not care for this at all. The food was flavorless and very few of their selections were actually worth finishing. The sweet and sour sauce was mostly just sour, and thin. The fried rice was nasty. The salad bar had very few fresh veggies, and was mostly stocked with mushy canned vegetables. The seafood, which others have mentioned, was of the lowest quality. I'd prefer a place with fresh, quality seafood, even if it's not "all you can eat." It could have been an off night, by we all felt a little sick after eating and we won't go back.

Our waiter totally ignored us; no refills at all. First time I have not left a tip. Sad bc I love the food, but when he walked righ5 past and ignored our glasses it was insulting.

A fairly new restaurant inside a newly developed "China Town" square. I was really excited to see a supermarket, but too bad it hasn't opened yet during our visit. I digress... The food at this Chinese Buffet is decent. The turnaround is super high, you'll know what I mean when you pay a visit and pay attention to the demographic of the diners. That's all I'll say. So it doesn't make the best dining experience but it means freshly made dishes are constantly being brought out (but good luck getting your hands on the seafood...) Real ice cream (self-serve by the scoop) is offered here as opposed to the tiring fro-yo machine, which is a plus!

Just ate at the new ChinaTown Buffet and it is way better than Chinese Gourmet!! Better price, better food, better atmosphere, cleaner, better service, actual seafood, and plenty of it! Yum. :)

Very Clean and food was hot!!... Different varieties and the place is bright!! The service was great and they cleared our table constantly and topped our drinks!!! Pretty good hope it stays clean and keeps improving there menu items ;)

Move along, this is not the Chinese buffet you are looking for. Seriously, move along.

For a buffet? I think this place is the best among the ones I have been to. Overall the food is very good. The Mongolian grill may not be as good as the others but it's the food that wins me over.

I dined here on Christmas with my family, and for not having very high expectations (it is a Chinese buffet afterall), we left with our bellies full and a pretty positive experience. Since my visit was on Christmas, they were offering more seafood dishes and it was $12.99 per person including drinks. Most of the things I tried weren't bad, but nothing was so delicious that I had to have more. Some of the memorable items were the honey shrimp, barbecue ribs, mussels, fried crab and shrimp, and most of the stir fry dishes were pretty good. I noticed that the dishes do get rotated out and stirred frequently, so I didn't experience much dryness or overcooked items like you might at other buffets. The salad bar had a variety of pudding and unlabeled mixed salads that didn't look very appetizing, so I didn't try anything. They also have a mongolian grill, and although the ingredients looked really fresh, I was too stuffed to try it out. Service was good and our drinks stayed full, so if I ever decide to stuff my face on some decent American-ized Chinese food, this is the spot.

I enjoyed eating lunch at China Town buffet today. The food is always hot and tastes good. Buffet food isn't not always the best quality but this food is pretty good for buffet type food. There's a lot of different food there, so there's lots to choose from. I recommend it if your on the mood for Chinese buffet food. I think it's pretty clean, and its one of the only ones that I feel comfortable eating at cleanliness wise.
(4)Vida A.
Gained a star because there food is fresh and good. My mom enjoys it here so i usually go with her. We usually share a plate of something we pick and they cook off the grill and its really good. Soups are decent. The ice cream is really good. Parking is plentiful. Not bad for a Chinese Buffet.
(4)Shon H.
You know you have found a good Chinese joint when there are Chinese people there eating. The place is clean and the tables are wide. It is well lit. The staff friendly and the food has a good lay out. Not like your typical buffet that is dimly list hiding the crab legs that have been soaking for 12 hours They have a Mongolian BBQ inside in addition to the buffet. A real MOGO that cooks it in front of you. The selection of food is awesome Would I come back? You bet your sweet ass I will.
(4)Virginia C.
YAK! This place looks busy most of the time, so one would assume the food was good, but ah it's not! very few food choices for buffet style eating, flavors where very bland and almost every thing I tried lacked flavor. I did not think the food here was decent enough to return as nothing made an impression, well except the scoop yourself ice cream one Dirty scoop for the entire restaurant to use, especially all the kiddos who go and serve themselves and leave a mixture of ice cream behind for everyone to enjoy. YAK!
(2)Hilerie S.
Good Chinese buffet. Salad bar looked meh, but the Chinese food was the best part. There's a Mongolian Grill. The selection for the MoGo was not extensive, but it was tasty. I loved the chicken dishes, favorite was the house chicken. I didn't try any seafood items, there were plenty of choices though. The wontons were excellent. I wasn't a fan of the fried rice, but didn't see the white rice until later. It's In the rice cooker by the ice cream. Speaking of ice cream, no soft serve here. You get the real thing, which I really appreciated. The other desserts were ok. Overall, good experience. The service was excellent. Clean place and the service was prompt at the table and at the buffet. For 24 dollars for two people, you have an affordable and a pretty good meal.

I really enjoyed eating lunch at Chinatown Buffet last week! As a typical Chinese buffet the procedure for paying and getting your food is straightforward and fast, making it an ideal destination for a quick bite-to-eat on your lunch hour. The food was great. There were tons of tasty-looking meat offerings, so many that I never made it to the ACTUAL salad bar which also looked pretty enticing. I was too nervous to try the Mongolian BBQ. But since I was full after the first plate, I never really had an opportunity. The space is clean and bright, and the waitstaff is polite and attentive. My drink was never empty, and my dirty plate was promptly whisked away. I definitely recommend Chinatown Buffet! I'll be back ASAP.
(4)Kim S.
We came at a busy time, but there were so many dirty tables that it was distracting. The food was okay. A variety that missed some of my favorites, but the Mongolian grill was good. The servers were very nice.
(3)Edward O.
Great restaurant. Their food is always pretty fresh, even in off hours. Service is good and it's a pretty decent price for a buffet. The house chicken is my favorite, but the wontons are great and the rice is above average. It's basically a hundred times better than the "gourmet buffet" down the street at 45th. Definitely recommend it.
(5)Joseph S.
It is a nice clean place (new) but The food was bland and no seasoning hardly The fried items were greasy The fried fish was like 2 layers of breading and hardly a thin layer of fish inside The won ton soup was like eating raw dough The large egg rolls were greasy both inside and out The servers and workers were all Asian I thought the noise level was too high I was impressed how clean the place was but ( I go for the food and is was poor I suggest you drive farther south to Chinese Gourmet
(2)Todd D.
I'm sure the Chinese Gourmet down the street is thrilled about this place opening up. It's pretty similar in selections minus a lot of the unnecessary stuff but the food is exponentially better. The Mongolian BBQ is worth the price alone.
(4)Cecilia L.
I LOVE this place. Hands down best Asian buffet in the valley. During lunch it was about $9 and Sunday dinner was about $12. The quality of the food is soo good, its clean and price comes w a drink. The salad and dessert tables are OK. But the real delight is in the actual Asian food, even the steamed veggies were cooked well. Everything seems fresh, so That's also a big diff from other Asian buffets. During the weekday lunch they had vegetable tempura..yummmm. they didnt have that during Sunday dinner but they had crawdads and shrimp. I liked this place so much I went twice in one week LOL the place is pretty new, and the staff is very attentive.
(4)Sunny D.
Had a late lunch here and really enjoyed the food! My relatives paid for it but it was around $44 for five of us, three seniors included. There's a mongolian bbq area where you select your fixings and they cook it for you. They offer a nice variety of food, my favorites being the honey shrimp and the crab & cream cheese won tons! Sure the shrimps are on the small size but they were still tasty! I tried the egg drop soup which was flavorful but a tad salty for my taste. I found the lettuce a bit weird as there was sitting in about an inch of water in the tray. For dessert, they have a nice variety, not a huge selection but I though it was ample. They also have a selection of four flavors of ice cream! We all enjoyed the selections and I'd go there again on my next trip to SLC.
(4)Cee L.
the restaurant itself is attractive and they offer a great mix of traditional and non-traditional foods. the mongolian barbeque station is clean and the gentleman that runs it is very good at what he does and is nice. they even have 'mu-shu' pancakes. all of the staff was attentive. the steamed dumplings and potstickers are delicious. i especially enjoyed the 'dry' beans, chicken and mushrooms, the spicy chicken, mongolian beef, and the vegetable dish. condiments such as chili oil, hot sauce, and mustard are on the salad bar. nice selection of foods and clean.
(4)Russ T.
As many of the other reviews have said, it's pretty mediocre. Nothing too spectacular, and some of the dishes certainly taste better than others. Service was decent and overall it was a good meal, but nothing spectacular.
(2)Felipe Z.
These guys are legit. Clean, open, lots of food items, plus a mongolian bbq. They are really good at keeping up with your drink and cleaning your table up all the time. Super nice service and place.
(4)Willy L.
New, Clean, Good lunch price. I went here for its lunch during weekday, what can I say, $7.99 including unlimited soft drinks is a bargain. There have most regular American Chinese dishes you can think of, orange chicken, hot&sour soup, no-walnut shrimp (taste great), egg rolls, and including Mongolian BBQ grill. Like other Chinese buffet restaurants in the country, it has many different kind of shrimp dishes, which I like a lot, think of going to red lobster for its unlimited shrimp for $15, for the half of price at Chinese Buffet, you can choose fried shrimp, stir fried seafood, walnut shrimp without walnut, and plug many other chicken, beef, pork. The dishes here is not greasy and good taste, there is no authentic Chinese food but good for the price as American Chinese Food. Their hot and sour soup is not hot and not sour, it's only thing I didn't like there, but there is chinese hot sauce you can put in the soup and make it to the 'hot soup'. The dinning area has high ceiling and feels like it might need more seats for the restaurant, but I think they have a 'party room' in the back can hold more people when crowded. The place is well lit, has many large window on the exterior wall, I went for lunch so I don't know what lighting they have after the sun sets. I like the idea of a Chinatown in Salt Lake City, but I think the property owner is asking too much and it was an empty lot for several years before these restaurants finally opened. I miss the haunted house there tho, I read on the Chinese newspaper it says they will be open up an Chinese supermarket there in 2013, which I hope they would have fresh seafood at the decent price like other Chinese markets in California. Location is pretty nice, right on state street next to the adult bar - Show Club. really close to I-80 state st. exit, and the Century 16 movie theater. I will go back once in a while probably once a 3~6-month when I am very hungry for some chicken and shrimp and don't have too much money. I would recommend you to try it if you are looking to go to the Chinese buffet like the one at 45th State st. edit: I forgot to mention that one dish was the fried chicken wings, which is juicy and tender, it does not have special sauce for it like in Wing coop but you can probably make your own from the sauce counter, think of you are eating the chicken wings and these wings places, $8 all you can eat wings sounds like a deal to me. Maybe I'll come here more often just for the wings and shrimps!
(4)Brandon G.
It was fair enough. Something stale about the environment that was weird. It was a bit warehousey or something. The waitress was really nice, the mongolian bbq guy was weird in a nonpersonable way. We'll hit the Chinese Gourmet up the street every time over this.
(2)Scott L.
This place is definitely worth $8 for lunch and a drink. Nothing blew me away on the buffett, but everything was pretty good. Walnut Shrimp and House Special chicken were two of my favorites. The mongolian BBQ is awesome. Lots of vegies, meats and sauces to choose from as you make yourself the perfect lunch combination. The place is new, clean, and the service was outstanding. My drink was never below the halfway mark before being re-filled.
(4)Marcus G.
Two of my friends and I were going for a movie at the Century 16 Theater. We felt like hungry so we saw this new restaurant and would like to give it a try. The place is nice and clean, but food is the most important part. I have been to several different Chinese buffets around town, this one is probably the best so far. Unlike some of the buffets, most food is fresh and non-greasy, but still very tasty. For 10 bucks with a drink for dinner, with the Mongolian BBQ, we wished our stomach could be bigger. My favorites this time were the cheese wonton, walnut shrimp, house special chicken, broiled mussels, spicy crabs and the Mongolian BBQ. I will go next time to see if I could add more to my fav list.
(5)Vignesh R.
Not worth the price. Ambience is bad and the place smells like raw fish every time. Fruit drinks are even bad. Desserts are ok and icecream is endless.
(1)H. W.
The restaurant is clean (and hopefully it stays like this in the future). The selections are fewer than the other Chinese buffet on State St, but the quality seems to be higher. Waiters are friendly and service is fast.
(3)Linsey B.
Food was exceptional. Place very clean. Service attentive. Kids 10,8,&6 loved it as well!
(4)Greg N.
This new buffet on State St. looked promising - very clean, lots of food, friendly service. What a disappointment. There was a whole lot of variety - unfortunately none of it was anything special. I tried various chicken and pork; none of it was hot and most of it was tough - and nothing had any exciting flavors. Even the seafood. It all kind of tasted the same. The egg foo yung was hot, but it tasted really weird. Even the desserts were bland. But the mongolian grill was good - of course I could pick what I wanted and season how l like (with lots of garlic), but I'm sure there are better mongolian grills in town for the price. Saturday lunch is $10.99. Overpriced for the quality. Service was really good, but I won't be going back.
(2)Mikel M.
After tasting the calamari, I'm suspicious they are using deep fried rubber bands. I had to schedule a dentist appointment for my daughter after she broke a tooth on a cookie. The flan was described as "Bleh with water" by my wife. My son had the mongolian grill beef with peppers and said it was too peppery. My brother in law said it needed gravy. The toast wasn't toasty, the pizza too doughy, and why the hell would you fry crab legs? Ice cream was good.
(2)Grace W.
Definitely worth 12 bucks! ! Love the chicken wings and Mongolian grill. The service is good too.

Check SL County Health Dept. website. C'mon China Town clean it up!!

These folks opened the second restaurant in this so-called Chinatown location near 33th State. They are another typical mediocre Chinese buffets that are all over Utah. The place is brand new with comfortable ambience, and it can still be packed on weekends. The selection on the hotplates are about same as other Chinese buffets, regular cooked items, fried items, and a section of seafood. The flavors were actually not too bad for most of their dishes. Seafood goes rather quickly on busy nights. So far, I have seen clams, mussels, squid, octopus, and blue crabs. They also have a Mongolian grill, but the guy cooking the stuff seems to have an attitude problem and stuff that runs out can take awhile to refill. Their grill did not seem to have enough heat, as the food was just a bit warm rather than smoking hot like many Mongolian grill places. Other than the name Chinatown Buffet, I could not come up with anything special about them. In the end like most Chinatowns in the US, they just end up being a tourist trap with mediocre stuff. Service is just like most Asian restaurants, so try not having a high expectation.
(3)Lizzie W.
It was so uneventful that I can hardly remember my meal, and I was in here a mere 2 hours ago. Let me preface by saying that although I'm not a buffet kind of gal, if the food is exceptional I can look past it. Take the phenomenal House of Tibet for example. But it wasn't all bad at China Town buffet, so I'll start off by talking about the positives. The restaurant was spacious, clean from what I could tell, and the staff were helpful and quick to get our drink orders. There was nothing horrible about the dining experience, but China Town Buffet is essentially like every other cheap Chinese restaurant I've ever been to, and believe me there are HOARDS of them on state street. I didn't sample a lot from the buffet, because quite frankly there wasn't much that appealed to me. I had lo mein, egg foo young, and tempura fried vegetables. Everything tasted okay, albeit a little bland. I realize my review may be ill informed as I didn't sample a lot of the food available, but as a vegetarian there really wasn't a whole lot I could eat. On the plus side it's cheap. But just because it's only $9.00 doesn't mean it's worth it. I won't be back.
(2)Ashlyn P.
not a big buffet fan, but my boyfriend loves them. came here on a tuesday. not many people. 22$ for 2 people, not including tip. the food was good, the hot and sour soup was on point. my boyfriend loved the seafood. i didnt care for it, i stuck with the different types of chicken, which i enjoyed. i would go again.

This place used to be ok when it first opened, but it's gone down in my opinion. I can't speak for the Mongolian grill, but just the buffet. The food was decent at best. A lot of the stuff was slightly over cooked and tasted like it was microwaved from frozen. Even so, it's still not the worst place in the valley for Chinese food. The chicken dishes is where this came across strongest. The noodles were ok, and the soups seemed done in house, so I had some hot and sour with cheese wontons which was nice. The desserts didn't look appetizing either. The chocolate pudding tasted of the store bought instant kind you can make with milk. I get that it's a buffet serving hundreds of people, but I feel that there are some sort cuts you shouldn't take, and that's using instant mixes and microwaving things. The service was good. We had our drinks refiled regularly and there are always lots of staff running around. You pay when you enter, so they always get their money, even if you don't get the satisfaction.

YAK!

I won't be back.

not a big buffet fan, but my boyfriend loves them. came here on a tuesday. not many people.

We came at a busy time, but there were so many dirty tables that it was distracting. The food was okay. A variety that missed some of my favorites, but the Mongolian grill was good. The servers were very nice.

Gained a star because there food is fresh and good. My mom enjoys it here so i usually go with her. We usually share a plate of something we pick and they cook off the grill and its really good. Soups are decent. The ice cream is really good. Parking is plentiful. Not bad for a Chinese Buffet.

These guys are legit. Clean, open, lots of food items, plus a mongolian bbq. They are really good at keeping up with your drink and cleaning your table up all the time. Super nice service and place.

Definitely worth 12 bucks! ! Love the chicken wings and Mongolian grill. The service is good too.

Check SL County Health Dept. website. C'mon China Town clean it up!!

As many of the other reviews have said, it's pretty mediocre. Nothing too spectacular, and some of the dishes certainly taste better than others. Service was decent and overall it was a good meal, but nothing spectacular.
(2)Brandon G.
It was fair enough. Something stale about the environment that was weird. It was a bit warehousey or something. The waitress was really nice, the mongolian bbq guy was weird in a nonpersonable way. We'll hit the Chinese Gourmet up the street every time over this.

Maybe I'll come here more often just for the wings and shrimps!

the restaurant itself is attractive and they offer a great mix of traditional and non-traditional foods. the mongolian barbeque station is clean and the gentleman that runs it is very good at what he does and is nice. they even have 'mu-shu' pancakes. all of the staff was attentive. the steamed dumplings and potstickers are delicious. i especially enjoyed the 'dry' beans, chicken and mushrooms, the spicy chicken, mongolian beef, and the vegetable dish. condiments such as chili oil, hot sauce, and mustard are on the salad bar. nice selection of foods and clean.
(4)Scott L.
